Endeavor – How I see it – November 5th, 2010

CAIRO—Nov.10th, 2010
Press Release

Endeavor Egypt celebrated on Friday Global Entrepreneurship Week in a new and unconventional event titled “How I See It: Experiences Shared” at Townhouse Gallery in Downtown Cairo. The goal was to tackle the existing culture on entrepreneurship especially amongst the youth, and about private businesses through presenting examples of successful Egyptian role model entrepreneurs in different fields, sharing their experiences as normal people, not preaching or lecturing, where their talks addressed several principles vital to an entrepreneurship-friendly environment like dealing with failure, commitment to fairness and building trust, impact, involvement, serendipity, and velocity.

The aim was to spread awareness and change the popular culture that exists about these concepts to encourage young people to rise up with their communities and combat poverty and unemployment via small and medium business enterprises and hope with innovation-led entrepreneurship.

In cooperation with the Institute of International Education, The LIFT-OFF Initiative was launched at a press conference that took place at the beginning of the event. The LIFT-OFF Initiative was awarded to the Institute of International Education (IIE) by the U.S. Department of State Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI) in September 2010 to foster a culture of entrepreneurship among youth across North Africa. IIE, an independent nonprofit founded in 1919, is among the world’s largest and most experienced international education and training organizations. LIFT-OFF is implemented by the IIE Regional Office in Cairo in partnership with Endeavor Egypt. The LIFT-OFF Initiative features activities that target MENA region youth across three age tiers (16-18; 19-24; 25-35) to promote and support entrepreneurship as a viable career-choice for young people. Activities include the creation of entrepreneurial e-moment documentaries, a virtual IdeaLab, contests and competitions at schools and universities, capacity building for university and youth entrepreneurial support centers, an Entrepreneurial Leadership Program for university students, and Endeavor Egypt support for high potential young entrepreneurs as they enter the market.
